THE MAGIC of FICTION and NON-FICTION

A couple of weekends back my friends and I went on this Singapore adventure to explore the new exhibits up and about and unearth offbeat restaurants. We met up and had brunch at this quaint little coffee place that served scrumptious pancakes, waffles and sausages then had Nutella pancakes for dessert. The morning went with everyone in high spirits. We then headed down to the Art & Science Museum at Marina Bay Sands, which is currently hosting the Harry Potter & Andy Warhol Exhibits - and I must say it was nothing less than stellar.

The Harry Potter Exhibit housed sets and props from the movies, which made the fictional world jump to life. And for fans of the franchise, I'd say it was a delight to be immersed in it - from the intricate wardrobes, to the Nimbus 2000 broomstick to Fawkes the Phoenix. It was magic on earth. Sad to say photo taking wasn't allowed; at the end of the journey though, you'd be able to take home some of the goodies created in the world of Harry Potter. You have the characters' wands, necklaces worn by the characters and even the food - chocolate covered frogs and Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans [which literally has every amazing, insipid and disgusting flavor described in the book!].

We then went into something more realistic, but magical nonetheless, and viewed pieces from the work of Andy Warhol. Much like the latter exhibit, photo taking was prohibited, so pardon the lack of stimulating visuals. In any case, seeing them is worth the trip as it was just a cocoon of creative inspiration. You'd walk around wondering where this man would get his inspiration to craft such genuinely real, yet magical pieces of art.

Creatively nourished, our little group went on in search of nourishment that would tame our famished bodies - thus we were brought to our last stop Broadcast HQ. Discovered by my friend Dennis, it's an amalgamation of good music, delectable food and amazing drinks. To top it all off, the place has a very welcoming and warm feel to it that's almost impossible to resist spending an entire day there.

It was a magical day! Made me realize that sometimes, in our busy lives, we tend to ignore what's out there and explore things that will just soothe your weary soul - great friends, works of art and even run down non-commercialized places. It's these simple things that create magic in the world and it does us more good than we realize and let on.
