I don’t think that after this season’s showing anyone will ever doubt why Victoria Beckham is a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry. Her SS2013 RTW Women’s Collection is proof enough that she is a born and bred fashion talent and that she’s here to stay. This season, we see her veering away from her signature aesthetic, pieces that are close to the body, to something that’s a bit less constrictive. Yet in the process, I think she’s been able to establish her trademark aesthetic into 3 key design tenets – form, minimalism and a chic or posh visual. In spite of the fact that she’s used more open contours this season, the pieces still showcased a girl’s best assets. I think people in the industry may have started to wonder if she can get over her body-hugging dresses, which is very much so Herve Leger territory, and I think this season shows that she can. The other thing I loved about it is the use of color – 3 colors to be exact: orange, black and white – in a way that tied the whole collection together. And lastly, I think she’s done a good job in adding minute details into the form and cut of the pieces – from relaxed button-downs to tiered minis edged with sheer pleats – making each piece as minimally unique as you can think of.

Looking at her notes for the collection, Victoria claims that this season, she wanted to traverse into “the notion of how a woman can emotionally connect with her clothes and how they make her feel”. And I personally think this collection does just that. It will evoke a sense of empowered feminism in any woman; a sense of silent beauty that just shines through amidst the chaos of the world. Don’t you think so?
