Season's Round Up # 17: HELMUT LANG SPRING-SUMMER 2013
SS13 is well underway in New York and as much as I would love to be there, unfortunately I couldn't. I'd have to settle through viewing the collections online this year. It's better than nothing eh? To kick things off, I'm reviewing and featuring on my blog for the very first time the SS13 RTW Women's Collection from Helmut Lang.It has got to be one of the faves I've seen thus far. It's hip, vibe and refreshing after all the monotonous pieces I've seen thus far for SS13 from the men's line a few months back. Call me old fashioned but I do love the idea of keeping spring-summer utterly colorful and vibrant with patterns. Hey, to me a designer is brilliant if you can keep on refreshing something that is traditional no? Some of the pieces remind me of a collection from Alexander Wang a few seasons back.
What makes this collection unique in my opinion is the brilliant interplay of color blocking and pattern blocking if you like. The patterns used are not as overt and as literal as you would expect and designers Michael and Nicole Colovos made sure of that. The juxtaposition of natural fabric and technical details in the multitude of layered pieces were absolutely stunning! It's definitely dramatic pieces, yet extremely wearable. The pieces you see above are some of my favorites and I must say I'm looking forward to seeing them in actuality. Who knows, I might be decked out in Helmut Lang next season. It's not far from reality, especially when I fall in love with the pieces ;)
