a.Fasione's Round Up # 13: GUCCI FLAG COLLECTION for UNICEF
Giving back. It's something that we all have to think about every now and then; and big companies, even those in the fashion industry, do give back. One of the most recent efforts comes from the famed Gucci brand - in association with UNICEF - and I can't help but be awestruck at the amount of help that they have shared all over the world 7 years running now. The initiative is inspired and truly cause worthy. Education has no price and it is one of the greatest gifts any person can receive. And in Gucci's own little way - and potentially yours as well - you can give the gift of education to children who need it.
Dubbed the GG Flag Collection, it was designed by Creative Director Frida Giannini to benefit UNICEF in celebration of the launch of the “Schools for Asia” initiative. It's basically an expansion of their ongoing support of UNICEF’s “Schools for Africa” initiative, venturing into the Asian world. Its intent is basically to provide children in need across the board with access to quality basic education. As a company, they are making an initial donation of USD 350,000 on top of the 25% of the retail price of each item in the collection that will be donated further to the cause.
“We are grateful to Gucci for pledging resources for UNICEF’s ‘Schools for Asia’ initiative that will help to provide crucial improvements in primary education for the most vulnerable children in China. The new initiative will give children, especially girls, orphans and those living in extreme poverty, the chance for a better start in life,” said Leila Pakkala, Director of UNICEF's Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division. “Gucci’s expanded commitment to supporting education will help to equip children across both Africa and Asia with the knowledge, skills and confidence to shape better futures for themselves, their communities.”
The collection speaks for itself to be honest; inspired mostly by the global vision of Gucci, which you will find on a range of collectible items such as tees [priced at SGD 350 in Singapore], handbags and SLGs [priced from SGD 720-1730]. Imprinted with a stylized rendition of the interlocked GG logo made available in a slew of varied national flags from around the world - Italy, France, United Kingdom, Germany and Russia, to countries such as the United States and Brazil to Japan, and other countries spanning from the Emirates to Korea. It's truly a global design...a global vision...a global call to help and give back.
